Position: Principal Scientist II


Role Overview

As a Principal Scientist II, you will co-lead multidisciplinary teams, focusing on medicinal and synthetic chemistry, in a highly collaborative setting with colleagues across our global teams in the US, Switzerland, and India. Your expertise will drive the discovery and development of innovative therapies addressing high unmet medical needs.


Key Responsibilities

  • Project Leadership: Co-lead project teams to advance novel therapies through collaboration with GDC US/Switzerland and Indian CROs.
  • Strategic Planning: Develop and execute team plans with adaptive chemistry strategies to propel project outcomes effectively.
  • CRO Management: Serve as the primary contact to CROs, implementing best practices to maintain productivity, efficiency, and alignment on priorities.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with multiple Novartis line functions to leverage cutting-edge drug discovery techniques.
  • Scientific Innovation: Integrate complex data, generate hypotheses, and design molecules alongside global colleagues to solve key project challenges.
  • Data Management: Ensure timely and accurate reporting into Novartis databases.
  • Representation: Act as an ambassador of NIBR, building and maintaining relationships with external scientific communities.

Candidate Profile

  • Education: PhD in Chemistry or a related life science field with a robust foundation in medicinal and synthetic organic chemistry.
  • Experience: Minimum of 7+ years in drug discovery with substantial experience in CRO and project leadership, impacting multiple projects from initiation to candidate selection.
  • Skills:
    • Deep understanding of multi-parameter optimization, integrating disease biology, ADME, and toxicology to solve complex challenges.
    • Curiosity-driven with a strong aptitude for learning and openness to innovative thinking.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence and present strategies effectively.
    • Interest in disruptive technologies and trends in data science, automation, and miniaturization within drug discovery.
    • Commitment to Novartis health, safety, and environmental standards.
    • Adaptability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
