About Dr. B Borooah Cancer Institute
The Dr. Bhubaneswar Borooah Cancer Institute (BBCI) was established by the voluntary organization ‘Dr. B. Borooah Cancer Society Trust’ in memory of Dr. Bhubaneswar Borooah, a prominent physician, freedom fighter, and philanthropist from Assam. Dr. Bhubaneswar Borooah lived from September 4, 1893, to September 25, 1956.
The decision to create a cancer hospital in Guwahati to honor Dr. Bhubaneswar Borooah was made in a public meeting in 1958. The late Debendra Nath Sarma served as the Founder President, while the late Dr. Kanak Chandra Borooah, the distinguished brother of Dr. Bhubaneswar Borooah, held the position of Founder Secretary. The late Bimala Prasad Chaliha, Mahendra Mohan Choudhury, Bishnuram Medhi, Dr. Ghanashyam Das, Dr. Birendra Nath Choudhury, and many others dedicated their efforts tirelessly for the development of the institute since its inception.
