Job Description: A biotech company in Bangalore is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Research Associate for their Intellectual Property Management team.

Qualification: The ideal candidate should have a strong academic background with an M.Sc. in General or Organic Chemistry, along with a Diploma in Patent Law.

Experience: The candidate should possess 5-8 years of relevant experience in the field.


  1. Art Search and Patentability Evaluation: Conduct thorough art searches and patentability assessments for New Chemical Entities (NCEs) using various databases such as Scifinder, STN, and other relevant resources.
  2. Patent Drafting and Filing: Prepare and draft patent applications for submission in India, PCT (Patent Cooperation Treaty), and foreign jurisdictions.
  3. Lab Notebook Management: Oversee and maintain the lab notebooks, ensuring accurate and organized record-keeping.
  4. Patent Docket Management: Maintain and track patent dockets, ensuring all deadlines are met and relevant actions are taken.
  5. Patent Preparation for Small Molecule and Medicinal Chemistry: Assist in the preparation of patent applications related to small molecules and medicinal chemistry. Provide guidance to the scientific team on matters of patentability, freedom to operate, infringement, and validity.
  6. Compliance and Safety: Demonstrate a clear understanding of safety, health, and environmental protocols relevant to the work conducted in the laboratory and patent management.

Job Requirements:

  • M.Sc. in General or Organic Chemistry.
  • Diploma in Patent Law.
  • 5-8 years of experience in the field of intellectual property management, particularly in the biotech or pharmaceutical industry.
  • Proficiency in conducting art searches using Scifinder, STN, and other databases.
  • Strong skills in patent drafting and filing for various jurisdictions.
  • Excellent organizational skills to manage and maintain patent dockets and lab notebooks.
  • Ability to provide valuable insights on patentability, freedom to operate, infringement, and validity matters.
  • Familiarity with safety and environmental regulations within a laboratory setting.
