Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for Calibration of Walk-in Incubators 20-25°C and 30-35°C

To establish a systematic process for the calibration of Walk-in Incubators maintaining temperatures at 20-25°C and 30-35°C, ensuring accuracy and reliability in environmental conditions for proper storage of sensitive materials.

Scope:

This SOP applies to all personnel involved in the calibration of Walk-in Incubators within the specified temperature range.

Responsibilities:

  1. Laboratory Personnel:
    • Responsible for initiating the calibration process.
    • Ensure that the Walk-in Incubators are ready for calibration.
  2. Calibration Technician:
    • Conduct calibration activities according to this SOP.
    • Record and report calibration results.
    • Report any deviations from expected values to the appropriate personnel.

Equipment and Materials:

  1. Calibrated temperature probes
  2. Reference thermometer
  3. Calibration certificates for equipment
  4. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)

Procedure:

  1. Preparation: a. Notify laboratory personnel about the upcoming calibration. b. Ensure that the Walk-in Incubator is empty and cleaned before calibration. c. Verify that the calibration technician has the necessary equipment and PPE.
  2. Temperature Check: a. Allow the Walk-in Incubator to stabilize for at least one hour before calibration. b. Place the calibrated temperature probes at various locations within the incubator to ensure uniformity. c. Record the temperature readings and compare them with the reference thermometer.
  3. Calibration Adjustment: a. If any discrepancies are found, adjust the incubator settings accordingly. b. Document all adjustments made during the calibration process.
  4. Verification: a. Re-check the temperature at multiple points after adjustments. b. Ensure that the temperature remains within the specified range (20-25°C or 30-35°C).
  5. Documentation: a. Record all calibration activities in the designated calibration log. b. Attach calibration certificates for the equipment used. c. Clearly note any deviations from expected values and corrective actions taken.
  6. Completion: a. Notify laboratory personnel that the calibration is complete. b. Ensure that all equipment is properly stored and that the Walk-in Incubator is ready for use.

Records:

  1. Calibration log
  2. Temperature readings before and after calibration
  3. Calibration certificates for equipment used

Training:

All personnel involved in the calibration process must be trained on this SOP and any updates related to the procedure.

Review and Revision:

This SOP shall be reviewed annually or as needed, and revisions shall be made to reflect any changes in the calibration process.
