Role Overview: Scientist II, ARD (PREP HPLC)

USP is seeking a Scientist II to join our Analytical Research and Development (ARD) team. This non-supervisory role focuses on the development of Reference materials and involves hands-on work in isolation and purification processes within synthetic and compendial development labs. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in executing projects related to known and unknown impurity isolation using preparative HPLC, while maintaining safety and Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) standards in the lab.

Key Responsibilities

  • Isolation Projects (60%): Lead and support the isolation process, monitor reactions, scale up, and conduct final analysis as per established monographs or in-house procedures. Prepare development reports for Synthetic Support projects and assist in project acceptance.
  • Instrument Qualification (15%): Perform installation qualification, operational qualification, and performance qualification (IQ/OQ/PQ) for new instruments. Ensure lab safety, GLP compliance, and availability of necessary equipment and materials for ARD projects.
  • Documentation & Compliance (10%): Draft Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), protocols, and reports. Coordinate with the purchasing team to ensure project needs are met. Maintain timely equipment calibration and proper documentation.
  • Quality Assurance (10%): Support ISO-9001 certification processes, participate in internal and external audits, and address audit findings. Engage in USP cross-functional teams as needed.
  • Inclusion and Belonging (5%): Actively practice principles of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging within the USP India team.

Candidate Profile

  • Education: MSc. in Analytical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, or M.Pharm.
  • Experience: 3-6 years in Analytical Research and Development.
  • Technical Expertise: Proficient in using Preparative HPLC, HPLC, FTIR, wet chemistry methods, and analytical testing. Experience with HPLC method development and GMP/GLP environments.
  • Soft Skills: Strong technical writing, verbal communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively in team settings.

Additional Preferred Skills

  • Knowledge of LCMS and other spectroscopic techniques.
  • Familiarity with general chapter information, electronic lab notebooks (ELN), and software like Empower and NuGenesis.
  • Experience in documenting experimental procedures electronically.
