About Southern Railway

Southern Railway in its current form was established on April 14th, 1951, following the amalgamation of three state railways: the Madras and Southern Mahratta Railway, the South Indian Railway, and the Mysore State Railway. Covering a vast expanse of India’s Southern Peninsula, the present network of Southern Railway spans across the states of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Pondicherry, as well as a small section of Andhra Pradesh. This railway network serves the naturally bountiful and culturally vibrant southern states, stretching from Mangalore on the western coastline to Kanniyakumari in the southern tip, and from Renigunta in the northwestern part to Gudur in the northeastern region.
