Role: The Clinical Coordinator works collaboratively with the patient care team to ensure the safe and effective use of medications. The role involves providing patient care both over the telephone and in person. The Clinical Coordinator also identifies educational needs and provides guidance to staff, patients, caregivers, students, residents, and healthcare team members. They play a leading role in precepting interns, students, and residents, as well as coordinating learning initiatives in outpatient pharmacies. Additionally, operational duties may include interpreting, dispensing, and verifying medications prescribed by authorized healthcare professionals.
Education: The candidate should have graduated from an accredited College of Pharmacy with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree or equivalent two years of experience. Completion of an ASHP (American Society of Health-System Pharmacists) accredited residency program is preferred.
Licensure and Certification: A State of Maryland pharmacist license is required for this role. Advanced certification in the area of practice (e.g., BCPS – Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist, BCACP – Board Certified Ambulatory Care Pharmacist, AAHIVP – HIV Pharmacist, CSP – Compounded Sterile Preparations) is preferred. Certification by the Maryland Board of Pharmacy to provide vaccinations is also required within six months of employment. Active CPR certification is necessary.
Work Experience: A minimum of one year of direct patient care experience as a pharmacist is required.
