Position Overview

USP is seeking a Scientist III / Scientist IV to join the Compendial Development Laboratory (CDL) within Global Laboratory Operations. This is a non-supervisory role responsible for analytical method development, validation of USP/NF monographs, and supporting monograph modernization initiatives. The ideal candidate will contribute to USP’s mission by maintaining a GLP-compliant and safe laboratory environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, validate, and execute analytical methods following USP general chapters, SOPs, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Perform method development and validation using techniques such as HPLC, GC, GPC-RI, SEC-MALS, UHPLC, LC-MS, GC-MS, FTIR, KF, and UV-Visible.
  • Prepare and review project documentation, including laboratory notebooks, reports, and data compilations.
  • Ensure compliance with GLP, GMP, and QMS regulations, while maintaining data integrity.
  • Support modernization efforts for existing USP/NF monographs.
  • Promote Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) principles within USP India.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate should demonstrate technical expertise, regulatory knowledge, and a passion for quality in pharmaceutical research.

Qualifications & Experience

For Scientist III:

  • Master’s degree in Chemistry (Analytical/Organic) or Pharmaceutical Sciences.
  • 6–8 years of relevant industry experience or Ph.D. with 1–3 years of experience.

For Scientist IV:

  • Master’s degree in Chemistry (Analytical/Organic) or Pharmaceutical Sciences.
  • 8–10 years of relevant industry experience or Ph.D. with 4–7 years of experience.

Essential Skills & Competencies

  • Strong understanding of USP/NF monographs, general chapters, and regulatory standards.
  • Hands-on experience with analytical techniques and instrumentation.
  • Exposure to GMP/GLP/QMS environments and external regulatory audits.
  • Excellent technical writing, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex scientific information effectively.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with polymers, drug substances, and drug products.
  • Awareness of ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation standards.
  • Strong collaboration and project management skills.
