Job Opportunity: Pharmacy Clinical Specialist – Hematology/Oncology
Position Summary
Under the direction of the Oncology Clinical Manager, the Pharmacy Clinical Specialist ensures optimal patient outcomes related to medication use by preventing or resolving drug-related issues and optimizing drug therapy for patients. This role involves providing drug information to patients, families, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals. The specialist is deeply involved in the education of pharmacists, residents, and students, and serves as a resource and drug expert in hematology/oncology. The role also includes responsibilities in research and writing activities, as well as coordinating the acquisition, distribution, and control of drug therapy for patients under the pharmacist’s care.
Candidate Profile
- Educational Requirements: Doctorate of Pharmacy or Bachelors of Science in Pharmacy with an advanced degree, plus a PGY1 and PGY2 pharmacy residency or at least three years of equivalent work experience.
- Licensing: A valid license to practice pharmacy in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is required. MA pharmacist licensure must be completed and verified by the date of hire.
- Certification: Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BCOP) certification is preferred.
- Knowledge and Skills:
- In-depth understanding of medications, their effects, drug interactions, medical procedures, therapies, diagnoses, and disease states.
- Effective interpersonal skills for interacting with hospital staff, patients, families/visitors, physicians, colleagues, and others.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize essential tasks, and meet deadlines.
- Organized work style and ability to maintain well-written documentation.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; additional language skills are a plus.
- Self-management skills, requiring little to no supervision; must be a self-starter with a strong work ethic and the ability to identify issues or opportunities for improvement.
- Process improvement skills and attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proficiency with Microsoft programs (i.e., MS Word, Excel, Outlook) and web browsers.
