About Jamia Hamdard

Jamia Hamdard indeed has a rich history rooted in the vision of Hakeem Hafiz Abdul Majeed. After establishing the small Unani clinic in 1906, Hakeem Hafiz Abdul Majeed gradually expanded his efforts to promote the Unani system of medicine. His vision went beyond traditional practices; he aimed to integrate scientific principles into Unani medicine, thus enhancing its efficacy and credibility.

Over time, Hakeem Hafiz Abdul Majeed’s vision evolved into the establishment of Jamia Hamdard, which formally came into existence in 1989 as a deemed-to-be-university. The institution was named after a prominent figure in Islamic medicine, Abu Hamid Mohammad al-Ghazzali, who was commonly known as Hamdard, meaning “sympathizer” in Arabic. The name “Jamia Hamdard” reflects the institution’s commitment to combining traditional wisdom with modern scientific advancements.

Jamia Hamdard has since grown into a renowned center for education and research in various fields, including medicine, pharmacy, and allied health sciences. It continues to uphold the legacy of Hakeem Hafiz Abdul Majeed by promoting the integration of traditional knowledge with contemporary scientific approaches, particularly in the field of Unani medicine.
