About Directorate of Forensic Science Services (DFSS)

The Directorate of Forensic Science Services (DFSS) was established in 2002 under the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India. This creation followed a bifurcation from the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D), based on recommendations from the National Human Rights Commission and the Padmanabhaiah Committee on Police Reforms. The official Gazette notification, issued via Order No. 25011/41/2001-GPA.II/PM-II on December 31, 2002, confirmed this establishment. DFSS is led by the Director-cum-Chief Forensic Scientist and oversees six Central Forensic Science Laboratories located in Chandigarh, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Pune, Guwahati, and Bhopal.

Application Details

DFSS invites applications for the position of Deputy Director (Quality Assurance & Quality Control), a Group ‘A’ Gazetted, Non-Ministerial post. The role is offered on a deputation, including a short-term contract basis, and falls under Level – 12 of the Pay Matrix.

Eligibility Criteria

Who Can Apply?

Officers from Central/State Governments, Union Territories, Universities, recognized research institutions, public sector undertakings, or statutory or autonomous organizations who:

  1. Hold an analogous post on a regular basis in the parent cadre or department, OR
  2. Have five years of regular service in posts in Level – 11 (Rs. 67700- 208700) of the Pay Matrix.

Educational Qualifications and Experience:

Candidates must possess:

  • A Master’s degree in Physics, Applied Physics, Biophysics, Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Forensic Science, Botany, Zoology, Microbiology, Chemistry, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Physical Anthropology, Genetics, Pharmacology, Pharmacy, Psychology, Criminology, Computer Science, Electronics, Human Genetics, OR
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Technology in Biotechnology, Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Electronics, Telecommunications, Computer Science, Instrumentation, Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communications Engineering, Information Technology, Electrical and Electronics Engineering from a recognized University or Institute.

Additionally, candidates should have:

  • Ten years of research experience in a Forensic Laboratory/Institution under Central/State/Union Territory, with at least eight years in an accredited laboratory/institution managing a quality assurance program accredited by Quality Council of India, Standardization Testing & Quality Certification, National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories, National Assessment and Accreditation Council, National Agriculture Education Accreditation Board, Skill Management and Accreditation of Training, or Bureau of Indian Standards.

Important Notes

  1. The period of deputation, including the period of deputation in another ex-cadre post held immediately before this appointment, should not exceed four years.
  2. The maximum age limit for appointment by deputation (including short-term contract) should not exceed 56 years as of the closing date of receipt of applications.
