About Gandhigram Rural Institute

Gandhigram Rural Institute (GRI) was founded by Dr. G. Ramachandran and Dr. T. S. Soundaram Ramachandran, both dedicated disciples and contemporaries of Mahatma Gandhi. The institute is based on Gandhi’s revolutionary philosophy of Nai Talim, which effectively bridges cognitive and practical learning, emphasizing holistic development and skill acquisition through value-based education. This philosophy is deeply rooted in indigenous cultures and traditions. Since its establishment in 1956, GRI has made significant contributions to higher education, pioneering rural higher education and fostering comprehensive growth in its learners.
